Rumour: ‘Tales of’ game in the works for Wii?
Posted by: dvbrevolution in 1. Wii News & ArticlesAccording to the official Japanese Namco website, on June 20th an announcement will be made about an upcoming ‘Tales of’ title. The last time the series appeared was ‘Tales of Phantasia’ on the Gameboy Advance and currently, ‘Tales of the Tempest’ is in the works for the DS. It seems that the next title would be for the Wii especially since it was confirmed that Namco was working on an RPG for the platform.

Phantasia came out for GBA in March, so that’s the last game we saw by far.

Symphonia was definately one of the best RPGs for the Gamecube, I loved that game.
And Phantasia wasn’t bad at all. I hope this is true.

Yeah, I think Symphonia is the best RPG for GCN, but I haven’t played Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, or Skies of Arcadia Legends which I often hear people calling the best.

I beat Paper Mario, and I haven’t played Skies of Arcadia, but Tales is so immersive and fun, I love it.

The first 3D Tales game was Symphonia, for the GCN, released in Japan, USA and Europe. It was ported to PlayStation 2 in Japan. Other games were also created for the PS2, such as Tales of Destiny II (The real Tales of Destiny sequel, not the renamed Tales of Eternia), Tales of Rebirth, Tales of Legendia, and Tales of the Abyss. Legendia was released in the US, and Abyss is getting a release at the end of the year.
Other releases are of course Tales of Phantasia GBA, and I believe the latest release was Tales of Eternia PSP, which has only been released in Europe with no forseeable US release date (Most likely as people will think it’s a new game and find it’s the same game as the US Tales of Destiny II, which was just Tales of Eternia with a new name).
This isn’t too surprising. I believe the reason Tales moved to the PS2 was more a data issue than a console issue; a single PS2 disk can hold more data than 2 GCN disks. Since Wii uses the same standard DVDs, and the Tales series 3D games are not realistic-graphic-whores, it makes perfect sense to develop on the rather powerful and intuitive console (After all, the PS3 is difficult to program for). To finally end this essay on a lighter note: WIIIIIIIIII!

Heh, the best of the Tales series has been on Nintendo consoles. First, there was Tales of Phantasia for the SNES, later remade in English for the GBA. Then there was Tales of Symphonia, which did quite a bit better than any of the PS2/PSX Tales games. It’s only natural that the Tales series comes to the Wii. The Wii is the only console where the Tales series can bloom in this next generation of gaming.
