Overgame interviews Nintendo France, DVD Playback, more

Posted by: dvbrevolution in 1. Wii News & Articles

French gaming website Overgame.com interviewed Nintendo France’s Mathieu Minel earlier today and Minel, who is responsible for marketing in the country, had the following to say (note it is translated from French):

“It is very hard to draw from the lesson of E3 because it is a small bubble of people living in microcosm…how that is translated in the real world and not just in the small in vitro world of the video game, it is that which interests us more…(Why Twilight Princess is pushed back to launch of the Wii) The play was pushed back because the developers of it were not satisfied…and their objective was to reach, to even exceed, the 100% (to make it perfect etc.)…(regarding why not just a Wii version of the game) Because at the time when Twilight Princess will leave, there will be 21 million Gamecube in nature. We would have really evil to justify the fact of having announced it on Gamecube for, with final, to oblige the players to buy Wii so that they can play there….”

“…We think just that the universes which developed on this platform (Gamecube) - as Paper Mario, for example - are not completely adapted to Wii for the moment…(it would be stupid) to, from a financial point of view, to put the old generation of consoles at the rebus…Virtual Boy, something which was indeed physically unbearable, we made many tests and it is known that it is not physically unbearable to play on Wii…”

“(Regarding Xbox Live) With our 25 years of history of video game, we think of having an unquestionable advantage. For the remainder, our service will propose connection Nintendo Wi-Fi, as on Nintendo DS. To play on line with the Nintendo titles will be free and easy. Will we have all this system of marketplace, microphone-transactions, boxes with messages and classifications? I think that that will be very different on Wii…(as for multimedia features) I think that it is except subject on Wii. In any event, we do not have a disk hard out of price to be put on Wii. There will be never, never, never hard disk on Wii. It there with the memory flash of 512 Mo and all the remainder will be recorded on chart SD. But the disks hard of 60 gigabytes, that does not interest us at all. We will not make any.”

“(Regarding DVD Playback) It is always in the console. There needs small a dongle, seems to to me it. We did not specify yet what it will resemble but it will not be about a gigantic accessory. With my opinion, it is right a small key which one inserts some share and which makes it possible to resolve the functionality, because there are royalties to pay on functionalities DVD. We are obliged to sell it separately not to oblige people who have already a reader of DVD to pay these royalties moreover. People who do not have a reader DVD will have just to buy, for step large-thing in my opinion, this accessory which will enable them to resolve function DVD of Wii. It was a question of giving the choice.”

“(speaking about Kiddy Image etc) There was Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube which was not badly like adult play…One of the plays which were mentioned during the conference, and which is under development for a rather long time at Nintendo, it is Disaster. And Disaster is not addressed to small. All will do without in the middle of cataclysms and natural disasters. Ca will be very impressing visually. It is a play which should really shake people, and we supervise his development of very near… (people thinking that we) will not to have violence on our consoles. Indeed, that was a very strong speech of Nintendo some ten years ago. But this decade passed. We are not blocked any more on this kind of concerns.”

“(continuing)…we are not blocked any more. We really are very décomplexés compared to the fact that one can be an adult and, at the same time, to have fun with universes which are not violent ones or realistic. To also position negatively while saying “, one can do us”, it is not interesting. What is interesting, it is to explain to people: “Do not have shame. You can be made good in public on Mario. Nobody any more will considèrera you like an odd or delayed type.”

Looks like the recent Patent won’t be used completely. It’s always nice to know that Nintendo is for all gamers and not for one type of gamer. As for Multimedia features it doesn’t look like that will be happening on the Wii but at least we know for sure that DVD Playback is going to happen!

I want the DVD player even though im going to get 360 as well as Wi. I want my Wii to play my DVD’s because, I will be able to move my Wii around, but i wont move 360 around cuz it will likely break, that and Wii is small enough that i can use it in any setup especially since i can have it vertical or horizontal.
