2007 is looking like a really hot year for the Wii. Many Nintendo published titles are on their way and although more titles are still yet to be announced, for now here are the Top 10 games to get next year!
1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Two Words: Wi-Fi Connection.
2. Super Mario Galaxy - The legendary series is ready to make a comeback. Galaxy promises to be what Mario 64 once was.
3. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - The last game in the Prime trilogy is sure to be a hit. The original Metroid Prime for the Gamecube is currently the No. 3 top rated game of all time according to Gamerankings.
4. No More Heroes - If enough hype is generated for this game, it could be a smash hit. With free-roaming “GTA” style and RPG elements, the game looks promising.
5. Super Paper Mario - Mix the RPG series with a bit of old-school nostalgia and you are looking at a solid title.
6. Madden NFL 08 - Madden NFL 07 was a fantastic game for the Wii. Sure it’s “another” Madden, but this time around it’ll be a Wi-Fi compatible game and it’s expected to have improved visuals and controls.
7. Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn - The RPG from Nintendo is a sequel to Path of Radiance and should offer a more simpler control mechanism and great graphics.
8. Spider-Man 3 - A Movie game? Yes, in fact Spider-Man 2 was perhaps the greatest movie game in the last generation. The Wii version is considered more of an exclusive version. Perhaps we’ll be swinging through the streets of New York with our Wii-motes!
9. Disaster: Day of Crisis - We may barely know much about it, but it looks to be a third-person title in the likes of Resident Evil with mind-blowing physics.
10. Sonic and the Secret Rings - We know that Sonic games have gone down the drain over the years with the exception of Sonic Rush, but the Wii version was a hit back at E3 and it could be the game Sega needs to keep the franchise alive!

Yeah, these are looking like really solid titles, but they are also no-brainers and still represent serious holdovers from the old school. While I’m very excited about games like MP3 and SMG or BWii, the games that really get me going are the totally new IPs like Disaster Day of Crisis. I keep thinking about the DS and how there were great handheld games like MKDS but what about the new and exiting properties like Contact and Hotel Dusk, or Trauma Center. I want to see the Wii representation of games like Hotel Dusk and Contact. Totally new stuff bustin at the seems on the Wii. Next gen updates of last gen gameplay is SO xbox360. Puhlease.

“Spider-Man 2 was perhaps the greatest movie game ever made.”
Never played Goldeneye?

I hold major reservations for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. While as Metroid Prime remains my favorite game of all time, Echoes was very disappointing. It began to drift from that classic Metroid “feel” of isolation, interacting with the Luminoth, Galactic Federation and whatnot. My main fear of Corruption is it’s concentration on the FPS elements. With the Wiimote concentrating on aiming, the focus will shift from exploration and discovery to headshots and outsmarting the AI, much like Hunters did. It scares me even more when I see Samus running with other soldiers in the preview. I just hope Retro can implement the new aiming scheme without losing what makes Metroid a Metroid game. Either way they have my money…

Forgotten about Goldeneye?

5 great titles there. The rest are a reach. As I dislike RPG’s and sports games that makes 3 for me. I hope third parties start to step up to the plate soon or I will be forced to shell out for (eek) an Xbox or PS3.

December 9th, 2006 at 7:39 pm
^^To be fair I was supposed to put last gen before it was first posted, It was taken off so I placed it back again after people reminded me about Goldeneye , Goldeneye is unquestionably the greatest movie game ever I’ll admit.
December 9th, 2006 at 7:39 pm
Yeah, WarioWare is going to bring awesome to a whole new level.
December 9th, 2006 at 7:53 pm
Goldeneye will remain to be the most overhyped game due to nostalgia of all time.

Awesome list!
I made my own version of it at Tenspotting.com and everyone else can too! It’s a cool way to see what you readers think of your list and a way to easily let them make their own. Also, if you really wanted to, you can embed the all users list in your blog to see how it changes over time.
Here’s the list: http://www.tenspotting.com/ts/lists/284/system
Personally, I cannot wait for SMG. Super Mario 64 changed my life and I’d love to have a game feel like that again. Therefore, it’s got to be #1.
Anyways, keep up the great work!
