Ubisoft has a job posting on their France website, which asks for a Senior Game Designer who will take part in “the continuation of the Red Steel Project”. Interestingly enough, the job posting asks for “RPG” experience, which can suggest RPG elements may be used in the Red Steel Sequel.
A trademark was also made by Ubisoft in the United States of a game called “Fighting Steel”. Of course the name could be anything, but it’s great to know that if a sequel is on its way. Ubisoft can finally get some strong development time and effort in making the next Red Steel much better.

This is a good thing. It gives Ubisoft a chance to fix everything wrong with Red Steel. They have high hopes and good ideas, but i’m sure it was very tough working with a brand new control scheme and i’m sure Red Steel was more of a prototype than anything else. I expect Red Steel 2 to be a huge improvement.

I think that’s great news. I thought Red Steel was pretty mediocre, but only because of crippled work. It could have been an AMAZING title, should have Ubisoft decided to delay it a little and kill the bugs that plague it. It’s also great to see Ubisoft is STILL there, on the Wii, even more amazingly so with Red Steel. I, for one, was afraid that the various mediocre (yet deserved) ratings the game received would scare Ubi from continuing their support with the Wii.

@Loban: I agree totally with you. This will, hopefully, give Ubi the chance to fix the controls and make a great game.

Actually it’s not ratings that scare developers, it’s sales. Red Steel seems to be the second best launch title in terms of sales, and being that it was a hit Ubisoft is excited about future development. Madden NFL was also a hit, and this is why EA is now going to bring us their popular franchises with new controls.

Ooooh a fighting game using the Wii Remote? I wanna see how it’ll be implemented… four controllers wrapped around hands and feet, perhaps? :p

Sales are the matter indeed. It doesn’t matter what the critics give a release. If it sells, the dev/pub immediately considers some kind of follow up, whether it be a prequel, sequel or knock-off. I guess it helped that RS was so massively hyped as being the first unveiled Wii title that it simply didn’t matter what the scores were going to end up being. Plus with so many younger gamers wanting Wii and a FPS along with it, their parents wouldn’t give a second thought to it since most don’t do the kind of research that the older hardcore crowd does. So in a sense, however RS really is, Ubi rather lucked out due to the genius marketing.

@Stokky
I think it’s vice-versa on this one
Ubisoft trademarked Fighting Steel you can look it up, that game is not a Ubisoft game
